Traditional Programs

Some volunteers mentor a child individually, while others mentor as a couple or family. Each volunteer goes through an extensive screening process, including three personal reference checks, an in-depth personal interview and background checks. Volunteers make a one-year commitment to visit with a child on a consistent and regular basis. Big Brothers and Big Sisters help children discover a world of possibilities simply by being genuine friends.

School Friends

The School Friends program invites volunteers to spend time with your child at his or her school. School Friends is about building relationships and forming friendships. The program is not academically focused; matches play games, eat lunch together or simply hang out.

SOL Mentoring Program

Southdale Outreach and Links (SOL) is a Madison Metropolitan School District and Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring initiative, set in place to address the issues of Latino children living in Southdale, a Madison neighborhood. Southdale is working hard to overcome the difficulties associated with poverty. As SOL mentors, BBBS volunteers will have the opportunity to spend time with you and your child at large community gatherings, sharing experiences and culture. Volunteers can provide their Little Brothers and Little Sisters with access to community-wide learning opportunities such as special multicultural events and activities, community service and volunteer experiences.

Visit the Madison Metropolitan School District SOL page for more information.
